Burma - Otherwise known as Myanmar, is currently experiencing the longest ongoing civil war in recent history. It’s considered one of the top 5 most oppressive governments, right up there with North Korea. Burma is considered a Military Junta, or in other words, an illegitimate government led by corrupt Generals and their forces know as the State Peace and Development Council or SPDC for short.
A democratic party, namely the National League for Democracy or NLD, was voted into power in 1990 by an overwhelming vote despite the military effort to debacle the elections by murdering many NLD members and arresting the NLD leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The SPDC has since imprisoned thousands for their political involvement, and has murdered hundreds of thousands for the sake of greed. Among those that are targeted by the SPDC are the minority ethnic groups who heavily oppose the military rule. The Eastern Sky Project works primarily with the Karen people inside Burma just beyond the Thailand border. We deliver medicine, medical supplies, care packages with general hygiene products and clothes, as well as a message of hope for those who are determined to have a home of their own.
